DIY: Cupcake In a Jar

February 9, 2011

A few months back I found a DIY project for cupcake in a jar wedding favors and was completely in love with the idea. Now I am making them for Valentine’s Day gifts and sharing the process with you! I chose red velvet cupcakes with cream cheese frosting in honor of the holiday, but you could substitute any of your favorite cake & frosting combinations.

1) Bake cupcakes and cool completely according to recipe instructions. I like this recipe for Red Velvet cupcakes. 2) Cup the cupcakes in half, and place the bottom half in a small 4oz Ball jar. *You may need to trim the sides of the cake to fit the jar…snack on the trimmings! 3) With a piping bag fitted with star tip, pipe in a layer of cream cheese frosting.

4) Cover with second half of cupcake 5) Pipe on a second layer of frosting 6) Cover with lid and tightly screw shut.

7) Decorate your cupcake jar and gift away!

* To make the fabric cover: I cut out a large circle of red fabric, held it in place with a rubber band while I tied red twine around the jar, removed the rubber band, added a heart tag, and finished it with a bow. Ta-da…piece of cup-cake!
